Post-doc Position Available
The Northwest Electromagnetics and Acoustics Research Laboratory (NEAR-Lab), located in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at Portland State University, has a post-doctoral position immediately available in the area of underwater acoustics. The NEAR-Lab has a growing portfolio of research in underwater acoustics under Navy sponsorship, and has recently started a five-year collaboration with the Nature Conservancy to develop sensor technologies and processing strategies for environmental sensing applications with emphasis on underwater sensing. Portland State University, located in the scenic Willamette valley and surrounded by the “Silicon Forest”, is the largest university in Oregon and has an expanding research presence.
The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability in one or more of the following areas: modeling of underwater acoustic propagation and scattering; development and deployment of underwater sensor networks; creation of advanced signal and array processing algorithms; and the development of system concepts to exploit relevant phenomenon. The candidate is expected to conduct research, supervise research assistants and students, take a leadership role in field and laboratory experimentation, contribute to the writing of publications/proposals, and interact with sponsors.
Requirements include a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or associated discipline and experience in engineering related research with development of algorithms and/or hardware for sensing applications. Experience in acoustic wave propagation and scattering, computational methods, sensor systems specification, and environmental sensing applications is preferred. This is a fixed term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of continued funding.
To apply, send curriculum vitae, statement of research interest, and a list of three references to Rosemary Tevlin, rm@ece.pdx.edu. Applications will be reviewed immediately upon receipt; position will remain open until finalists are identified.
